Vision boards are a great way to put your hopes and dreams into a vision, literally, by mapping out your goals on a board to inspire you to make them happen. They can work for those that want to lose weight, those with goals to write a book, those who want to travel and now you can use them in the office.
They may sound like something a teenage girl does when she’s gushing over the latest Hollywood heartthrob, but in reality, they’ve turned into an efficient way to realize a goal or desire. Using them in the business world is actually a great way to become more successful, just like those who write things down find more success. Here is a look at what vision boards are all about and why you may see more success if you utilize them in your business.
What is a vision board?
What may start as a simple goal or dream may evolve into a bigger focus as you create a vision board. A vision board is a tool that can be used in any area of life to clarify your focus on a goal by having on display the images that represent what you want to achieve. Since humans are so visual and many times feel inspired through images, creating a vision board is a great way to inspire and also remind people daily of a goal they are supposed to be working towards.
It’s a great think to create and then hang in an area that will be seen every day. Simple identify the vision, clarify what it is, reinforce it with daily affirmations and keep your attention on the goal. It will keep you focused and will increase the odds of meeting the goal.
How to make one
Your mind will respond strongly by visual stimulation so it’s important to find great photos and images to stimulate your emotions. Start by finding a great board, whether it’s a cork board, poster board or otherwise and make sure it’s visually pleasing to look at. You could find one online or find something at a hardware store that allows you to pin things onto it. You’ll need scissors, taps, pins and a glue-stick depending on which type of board you choose. Grab markers, stickers, magazines and anything else you’d like to use to make this happen.
When you’re creating a vision board, the idea is to make it visually appealing. If you don’t have good handwriting or creativity, feel free to print images online or cut out of magazines to use on the board. Look for key words that inspire you, images that relate to the goal and pictures of people doing the thing you want to do.
If you’re trying to make a board about making your business grow, put images on the board stating words like “success,” “achievement,” “believe,” or “passion.” Put a picture of someone that’s met the goal you want to meet, whether it be to become the CEO, to be able to travel while you work or to make your office go from a few staff members to a huge team.
If your goal is to make a big profit so that you can upgrade your car, house and travel more, put a picture of these things on your board to inspire you to work towards them. Look for front covers of magazines from Time of Forbes of people doing the things that you strive to achieve.
Take an hour or two to create your board and make it a stress-free environment. Invite a friend to help you create it and then you can even make it an annual gathering to create boards together. Hang it above your desk and look at it daily until you’ve made that dream a reality.
