You may not have realized that your break rooms can help increase productivity, but they can also hurt productivity. The typical kitchen with high fluorescent lights is not a productive room for employee breaks. However, you can design a very productive break room your employees will love.
Make it Different from the Office
You want to make the break room different from the office. If it’s different, you will be able to give your employees an actual break from the office. If your office has light colored walls with dark desks, the break room should have different colors for the palette.
The break room is supposed to provide a better place for your employees to relax. However, if it’s the same as the office colors, they may feel like they are still at work.
Provide Relaxing Furniture
Relaxing furniture will provide you with the most productive employees when they come back to work. You want to give them plenty of areas to lounge and recharge. This will help with energy when they come back.
You should also set up a dining area, which includes a table and plenty of chairs. Make this a comfortable area, too. This will ensure your employees have a place for lunch and snacks during the work day.
Provide Plenty of Coffee
You want to provide coffee for everybody in the office. Make this free and make it something that is readily available. Using a Keurig machine is a great way to offer a variety of flavors for everybody. Coffee is cheap and will make your employees happier, along with provide a kick when your employees need it.
Talk to Your Employees
Your employees know what they would like to have in their break room. Ask them what they really want and what will help them relax. This will ensure they feel a part of the design, which will make it even better. Your employees may come up with some very good ideas that will make everybody happy.
Provide a TV or Entertainment
A TV, radio or something else that provides some type of entertainment will help you get the most out of your office break room. Sometimes a half hour break with a simple TV show can help your employees relax. You may even want to provide multiple TVs for the employees to enjoy.
Making the space as relaxing as possible is a great way to ensure your employees are happy and come back to work ready to get things done. A little entertainment can help them unwind and take their mind away from the work they have to do after the break.
There are plenty of great ways you can make the break room at your office relaxing and great for your employees. If you design a great break room, your employees will come back to work more productive and ready to get their work done. Make sure you get input from your employees and make it different than your office decor.
