Work can be fun, but it has to be done in a productive way. No one wants to be in a work environment where you’re not allowed to crack a smile. You need to like the people that you work with, and be able to have fun with limits.
It is important to realize that you can have fun in the workplace without it having negative effects on the way employees perform. It is true, that there is a time and a place for everything, but there are tons of ways you can lighten up the workplace. Seeing people smile is a joyous thing, and that should be shared in all areas of life, including work. You would be surprised at the amazing results it will bring to your office productivity when done correctly.
Why Is Fun Important
Being able to interact and socialize in the workplace is important. It only enhances communication. There have been studies conducted that proved that socialization is highly important in the workplace. One reason is because many business professionals lose the ability to socialize, as they spend most of their time with their family outside of work.
The work day consumes a large portion of our lives, and coworkers become a second family. Interacting among one another becomes necessary. It is only healthy for coworkers to form a relationship and bond. You want that to include fun, otherwise life could seem somewhat dull.
Socialization in the workplace also promotes optimism, creativity and decreases tension. Fun in the workplace should not include offending others, being racist, sexist or tarnishing the company’s name. Here are some ideas to bring fun into your company, and help increase communication among workers.
Casual Dress Days
Everyone wants to wear casual clothing. Make a day that you allow your employees to wear casual clothing. A lot of businesses already utilize this on Fridays. You can even make it fun and have employees where their favorite football team jersey on casual day.
We are not talking about your normal bulletin board. This one should be creative and fun. Make it a point to change out your bulletin board every Monday. This will get the week started out right. Hang up some funny cartoons, or jokes that will have everyone laughing about. It will help lighten the mood, and put a smile on everyone’s face. What a great way to start out a Monday.
Wall of Fame
You can make this a board, as well. Hang it in your break room, or somewhere employees will see it often. Fill this space with thank you notes that you have written to employees, or employees have written to each other. You will want the space to be decorated nicely, and keep some cards there and available, so employees can add a thank you anytime they like. You should also add awards for those who go above and beyond to make your company a success.
We have enough stress in the day. Add a ping-pong table, foosball or WII to the break room. This will allow workers to have a little fun when its break time.
