Entrepreneurs, more than any other professional, struggle to relax after a hard day at work. Why would entrepreneurs, one of the few professions where you choose your schedule and workload, struggle with this more than a hardworking employed professional?
This is because entrepreneurs tend to view their work as never really done. They tend to feel like they should do more, they should work until their eyes can’t stay open anymore and they don’t deserve time off because there is always another client, more work to be done or time needed to come up with more business strategies. This causes restlessness, anxiousness and eventually, a burnt out person. When you need to relax after a hard day as an entrepreneur, follow these tips that will relax you mentally and physically.
One of the key problems with the general work day is that you spend so much time indoors. It’s truly not good for the soul and a little time spent outside can be all it takes to make you feel rejuvenated. Spend time in a natural environment to get away from technology, screens and fluorescent lighting. Sometimes a walk outside before a big meeting, after a long day or during your lunch break can be what makes you feel lethargic to alive and happy.
Speaking of getting outside, exercise is a great way to help you relax. Getting physical during the day is really important because it reduces stress built up from being under pressure all day. Use physical activity to get rid of stress hormones by walking, running, doing yoga, cycling or swimming.
Spend time on a hobby
Try getting creative after a hard day. Start a hobby or work on a current one. If you spend time playing the piano, painting, building something or writing poetry, you’ll start to notice that your hard day will start feeling at ease. This is because you are concentrating on something else and it feels good to relinquish your mind from work to focus on something enjoyable.
Sometimes it’s just a matter of learning some relaxation techniques. Doing some deep breathing exercises and stretches after work may be all it takes to cool down from a hard day. Work on meditation, breathing techniques, mindfulness exercises, progressive muscle relaxation and autogenic training in order to get your mind to relax after a hard day.
What is your schedule like?
One of the problems is not a matter of the entrepreneur not knowing about these ideas, it’s that the entrepreneur isn’t making time for them. Do you have a stop time at the end of the day? Do you have set working hours?
If you aren’t allowing yourself time to yourself at the end of the day, you’ll feel like you work 24/7 even if it’s just a matter of working all day with many breaks. You need a set time to start and stop your day so that you can feel like a person outside of your job. Make time for relaxation in order to have a healthy lifestyle. Take the time to eat healthy, exercise regularly, get plenty of sleep and have some fun outdoors or working on hobbies. Otherwise, you’ll burn out and find that your work suffers.
