If you want to give yourself the best possible start to your day, you have to start when you wake up. Great days don’t just happen randomly – you can make any day better just by doing the following 4 things before you start work.
Try them out and see for yourself the difference it makes in your day!
Take Care of Wellness Before Starting Work
Before starting work, try stretching gently to give you a boost of energy and promote your muscles to be more relaxed all day long.
Don’t force or strain yourself, but slowly raise your arms and lock your fingers together until you feel relief in your arms and shoulders, then lower them back down.
Other stretching and warm up exercises include: Stand, bend down toward your toes and hold for 5 seconds; Stand, hold out your arms at your sides and move them in tight circles for counts of 10; and bend at your sides while extending the opposite arm above the head to stretch your torso.
Drink a glass of water as soon as you remember to before starting work in the morning (and every time you remember throughout the day!).
Coffee and juice are fine to have with breakfast, but there is absolutely no substitute for drinking at least one glass of water before you start your day.
Not only does your body already require additional hydration in the morning due to zero water intake overnight, but if you get up during the night to use the bathroom, you’re ridding yourself of even more water.
Eat a healthy breakfast with lots of whole grains, proteins, and fiber. The steel-cut oatmeal with plain Greek yogurt and fresh strawberries and bananas shown to the right is a perfect example.
The combination of these 3 (whole grains, protein, fiber) will help keep you full throughout the morning and early afternoon.
Additionally, choosing foods that take longer to digest and therefore empty from your stomach at a slower rate reduces your chances of long-term issues like Type 2 Diabetes, insulin resistance, and heart disease. They’re also a fix for short-term conditions like hunger soon after eating and blood sugar spikes and crashes.
Listen to music that you love before starting work. In this recent post about finding the right music to boost your productivity, we talked about a study that found people tend to prefer music that matches their personality.
Knowing the music that you like the best and what category it fits into can help you pick the right music to listen to before and on the way to work.
